The Creek Walker: A Nature Poem

I was running through suburbia when I noticed a path

Right under a bridge where the frogs take their baths

A creek flowed underneath and onward into the wood

I pondered if going down could be something good

I walked down the slope and out of the known world

Away from all the noise, the boys, and the girls

I walked on the bank beside the shallow water

A spider stood in my path, but I did ignore her

How does one find peace in an ever-busy world?

With so much stress and beautiful girls?

I came down to the wood on something of a whim

Seeking the curiosity of a young man of 10

When children are young, they always explore

As we grow old, the adventure gets ignored

I jumped across rocks as the water flowed

No one to tell me when to stop or when to go

I grabbed a stick to slash at anything in my way

The adventure was at hand, no time to delay

I saw a turtle and picked him up for the trip

Whilst walking through, I most definitely tripped

I went farther and farther into lands unknown

A place where magic seemed to be overgrown

There was a patch of elephant ears all together

They seemed overjoyed, nothing could be better

It was as if I’d entered a magic book

That whisked me to a land where I was overtook

Like the entrance into Narnia or the land beyond the shire

It’s in the unknown that we find our hearts desire

I hopped through water when I had to cross

I scratched my legs when nature became the boss

I ran through meadows holding a stick like a sword

I felt like a child that never gets bored

I thought I might reach the end of the creek
